The History of Club Greenwood

1985

Greenwood Athletic Club started as a concept in 1985 as a project of the John Madden Company, the founders of Greenwood Plaza.

August 20, 1986

After a 12-month design period, ground breaks and construction of Greenwood Club begins.

July 1, 1987

Greenwood Athletic Club opens its doors to a membership of 2,000.

1986-1991

We grew from the original 2,000 memberships to over 4,000. With this growth, our services and programs expanded accordingly.

1995

GAC responds to member needs and market demands by adding seven indoor clay tennis courts in a fully air-conditioned, award-winning Tennis Club.

February 2002

Comprehensive remodel is completed.

March 2005

The Greenwood Athletic Club Metropolitan District was formed.

July 1, 2006

On Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club’s 19th Anniversary, we transformed and expanded our aquatics area to 32,000 total square feet and added three new and beautiful outdoor pools.

2007

Greenwood Athletic Club evolves and changes their name to Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club and the development of a new vision, mission, goals and core values.

2008

Aligning with our new mission and goals, we begin yet another remodel, adding a 9,600 square-foot weight room and 4,800 additional square feet to the club.

October 2011

GATC adds an 11,000 square foot addition to the original building, bringing the total square footage of the athletic club to 101,000 square feet.

December 3, 2014

Greenwood Tennis Club expanded to reveal an upgraded entrance, lobby, reception area and a vestibule with specialized filter system to minimize the clay between the courts and the lobby. Expanded locker rooms were added with wet and dry vanities and more lockers. An outdoor observation deck with mountain views and social area was added to provide additional space for team parties or to cool off after a match.

January 25, 2019

Change our name to Club Greenwood. We're recognized worldwide as a place to find your strength through our expansive programs and services.

Club Greenwood maintains one of the most loyal memberships in the business. We continue to be recognized as one of the elite full-service athletic clubs in the industry.

Club Greenwood is committed to supporting the issues of our community through a combination of giving efforts, including events such as the Roadless Ride for Brent’s Place, First American State Bank Fitness Festival, Greenwood Days, and the Salvation Army Giving Tree. Each year Club Greenwood gives approximately $100,000 of in-kind donations to community charities.
