Hiking

Hiking is an amazing way to combine fitness with fun this summer. Hiking offers a fantastic cardio workout, builds strength, and improves mental health. And who can forget about the gorgeous view? Check out Mount Falcon Park, Red Rocks, and St. Mary’s Glacier for an array of trails near Denver that are perfect for their breathtaking views and varied difficulty levels.

New to hiking? No worries! Start with easy trails, wear good hiking shoes, and pack enough water and healthy snacks like fruit and trail mix. Make it a social activity by joining local hiking clubs or organizing group hikes with friends and family. It’s a fantastic way to stay motivated and share the adventure.

Swimming

When the sun is shining, and the weather is warm, there’s no better way to stay fit than by taking a dip in the water. Swimming isn’t just a refreshing way to cool off—it’s also an incredible full-body workout that’s low impact, making it perfect for people of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you prefer the tranquility of a local pool, the natural beauty of a nearby lake, or the salty sea spray on your favorite beach vacation spot, there’s a place for everyone to get their swim on.

Wondering how to make swimming a part of your regular fitness routine? It’s easier than you think! Try starting your day with a few laps, or join a water aerobics class to mix things up. You can even play fun pool games with friends and family or participate in swimming races. From improving cardiovascular health and building muscle strength to offering a stress-busting release—swimming has got it all. So why not make a splash this summer.

Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding is also a great choice for summer fitness. Not only does it help strengthen your core and improve your balance, but it also allows you to enjoy the great outdoors while getting a full-body workout. Some of the best places for paddleboarding near Denver include Chatfield Reservoir, Cherry Creek State Park, and the scenic Boulder Reservoir. Remember to start with a stable board, wear a life jacket, and don’t be shy about taking a few falls—it’s all part of the learning experience! Look into local groups or consider starting your own through platforms like Meetup or Facebook. Paddleboarding is more than a fitness activity; it’s a way to connect with nature and like-minded enthusiasts, making your summer fitness routine something you’ll look forward to every week.

Biking

Biking is a fantastic cardiovascular workout that also strengthens your legs and is easy on your joints. Still trying to figure out where to start? Check out the Cherry Creek Trail with its beautiful park views, or tackle the challenging terrain of the High Line Canal Trail. And don’t forget about the South Platte River Trail, perfect for a leisurely ride with family or friends.

Safety is critical whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just starting. Always wear a helmet and other protective gear, check your bike before heading out, and stay hydrated. Joining a local bike club or planning family bike rides can make biking a social, fun-filled event. Why not gather your friends for a weekend ride or join a community biking event? You’ll get fitter, make new friends, and discover hidden gems in your own backyard.
